Create playlists

   

Use the Playlist section to manage organized collections of resources (audio or video tracks, files, etc) grouped sequential playback. Once created, Manager can broadcast the playlist to show the playlist content on target devices.

Create a playlist

You will need to upload your files in Manager's Resources section so they become accessible to devices. For information on how to upload files, see the following page:


Once you have files uploaded, you can now add these files into playlists. To create a new playlist, follow the steps below:

  1. Click  Menu  to open the left sidepanel.
  2. Click  Playlist  from the options shown.
  3. Click   Create new playlist  on the upper right.

  4. On the new Create a playlist popup:
    1. Provide a name for this playlist 
    2. Click Confirm.

  5. Once done, the new playlist appears under the Playlist category.



Add files to playlist

To add content to your new playlist, perform the following:


  1. Click  Playlist on the left sidepanel.
  2. Locate the name of the playlist to update.
  3. Note the new icons that appear when you:
    • Hover over the playlist row, or 
    • Tap on the   checkbox.

  4. Click the  Enter icon that appears on the row.

  5. To add an item:
    1. Click   Add resourceand select one of the following:
      •  Media (images, videos, originals)
      •  Files (PPTX and PDF)
      •  Web Page (specify a URL)
    2. Provide the details required for each resource.
    3. Click Add to save the resource into the playlist.

  6. To remove an item:
    1. Select the item to remove.
    2. Click  Remove on the top toolbar.



Defaults

Note the following behavior:

  • Playback order is determined by the position of the item on the list.
  • By default, each item is only shown for 20 seconds during playback.
  • A playlist can only contain 20 items.
  • Manager shows only the first 20 slides of a PPTX file. 



PowerPoint files

Manager needs to convert PowerPoint files into images to generate a playlist. To add a PowerPoint file to a playlist, perform the following:


PowerPoint Files tab

Select PPTX files previously uploaded to Manager.


  1. Click  Add resource.
  2. Select  Files from the dropdown menu.
  3. In the  PowerPoint Files tab: 
    1. Locate your desired PPTX file.
    2. Select the file 
    3. Click Add.

  4. Manager starts the conversion process automatically. Wait for the file to get converted into a playlist, as indicated by a success message.


Conversion results

Manager generates new files when converting a PowerPoint file for broadcast. You can find these files in the following locations:


  • Resources 
    All slides are converted to images and saved in a folder named after the PPTX file.

  • Playlist 
    A new playlist is created and takes the same name as the PPTX file name, plus an added random string.




Manage playlist items

To manage the playlist items, the following options are available:


For individual items: 

Hover over the playlist row, or tap the checkbox to make these icons visible.

Drag up and down to change the playback order
Move this item up in the playback order
Move this item down in the playback order
Update how long this item is shown during playback


For multiple items: 

Select one or more items first to enable these options on the top toolbar.

Selects the current item
Select target items, then click to remove them from the playlist
Apply a common duration to all items in this playlist
Update the playback list, if another user added a new item



Create folders

Organize your playlists into folders to make it easier to find. To organize your playlists, perform the following:


  1. Click  Playlist on the left sidepanel.
  2. Click Create new folder on the top toolbar.

  3. On the new Create new folder popup:
    1. Provide a name for this folder
    2. Click Confirm.

  4. Once done, the new folder appears under the Folders category.



Move playlists into folders

To move individual playlists into folders, perform the following:


  1. Locate the playlist you need to move.
  2. Click the checkbox  of the target playlist.
  3. Click  Move to on the top toolbar.

  4. On the Move to popup:
    1. Browse through the folders. 
    2. Select a target folder. Note that only one folder can be selected.
    3. Click Create new folder if you need another folder.
    4. Click Confirm.

  5. Once done, the playlist will now only appear in the target folder.



To move multiple playlists, perform the following:


  1. Navigate to the folder that contains your target playlist.
  2. To select playlist to move:
    • Single-click on the playlists you need to move. 
    • Click again on the playlists to deselect them.

  3. Click  Move to on the top toolbar of the Playlist page. 
    This icon is disabled if no file is selected.

  4. On the Move to popup:
    1. Browse through the folders. 
    2. Select a target folder. Note that only one folder can be selected.
    3. Click Create new folder if you need another folder.
    4. Click Confirm.

  5. Once done, the selected playlists will now only appear in the target folder.



Broadcasting playlists

Once you have one or more playlists ready, you can start using these playlists in your broadcasts. For more information on how to broadcast a playlist, see the following page:


Note the following behavior:

  • By default, Manager shows each item for 20 seconds during playback.
  • A playlist can only contain 20 items.
  • Manager shows only the first 20 slides of a PPTX file. 
  • When using a layout with multiple sections, only one section can contain a playlist. Adding a playlist into a different section will remove the other playlist. 
  • A playlist can be set to play only once by using the Duration option. If enabled, the broadcast will terminate once the playlist has completed. This option is only available if the single media layout option is selected.
